It is most famous among the locals for its ‘crocodile pit’ a place where prisoners were kept but slowly began disappearing, legend has it that a crocodile was swimming in through a small hole in the enclosure and dragging prisoners out to sea.

Spiaggia Della Gaiola or Gaiola Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Naples. Now a protected national underwater park, the area includes submerged Roman ruins and a bubbling volcano crater that are best viewed by snorkeling through its crystal clear waters. It is also a great area to explore by kayak.

Ieranto Bay beach is situated a small cruise away from Naples in the Sorrento Peninsula. Due to its access difficulty by foot it is usually not crowded.
