Practical information for your Mallorca private cruise
When is the best time to visit Mallorca when renting a yacht?
Mallorca enjoys a very stable Mediterranean climate, with warm temperatures between April and October. Of course, the months of July and August attract the most tourists which come from every corner of Europe. Therefore, we believe that the months of April, May and October are the best suited to discover Mallorca under the sun and without the pressure of the crowds.
Interesting cruising areas when renting a yacht in Mallorca
When arriving from mainland Spain, we recommend you head for the western tip of Mallorca. Here, you’ll find the very graphic “skyline” of Dragonera, the “dragon island”. You can moor your private yacht at the small islands harbour and explore further, visit the ancient tower of Abercutx and spot the rich population of lizards and waterfowls – the island is their natural reserve.
Heading toward the main island of Mallorca, you can observe its mountains, the famous Serra de Tramontana, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Not far from Dragonera, you’ll find a calm mooring spot at Cala Blanca, on the territory of the Andratx municipality. Cala Blanca offers beautiful turquoise waters, calm enough to take some rest. Imagine yourself having a cocktail on your rental yacht under the sun.
You can also moor your yacht further to the north, next to the Foradada peninsula. There you can hike in the wild nature, away from the crowds, without ever losing sight of the magnificent blue sea. You won’t be far away from Soller, an important town on the west coast of the island, where you may be interested in experiencing the heritage Tramway of Soller, with rolling stock dating from as far back as 1913. There’s also a heritage railway line linking Soller to Palma, offering you a unique ride through the mountains of Mallorca.
What you shouldn’t miss when renting a yacht in Mallorca
On the east side of the island, the most interesting resort is Cala d’Or. This town is famous not only for its many little beautiful beaches with incredible light blue waters, but also for its points of interests and accommodations. Indeed, here you can moor in a yacht marina and visit the town, its medieval castle and spot the many birds at its natural park.
Mallorca’s culture and gastronomy
The best spots for wining and dining
For a scenic dinner, we recommend you try out the Ca’s Patro March restaurant at Cala Deia. Located at the foot of the cliffs, its waterside terrace offers a splendid view over the cove, which you can enjoy while tasting delicious fresh seafood and a large choice of quality wines.
For a sunset drink, head to Port d’Andratx, which is renowned for offering some of the best evening views. Here you’ll find a large choice of good quality venues, like Tim’s or Capuccino Puerto Andratx.
What should you eat?
Like all Balearic Islands, the coastal resorts of Mallorca are rich in seafood. You can try a wide variety of fresh fish in many high-quality seaside restaurants. Palma, the capital, is home to many interesting food markets, like the Santa Catalina or the Mercat de l’Olivar. There’s even a local eco-market on Plaza de los Patines, specialising in local organic products for conscientious shoppers. In bakeries, you can find the most typical snack of the island, the Coca Mallorquina, a baked piece of flatbread topped with vegetables.
Experience the local culture
The capital, Palma, is a large vibrant city rich with historical buildings, most notably the imposing early 17th-century cathedral. There are also archaeological sites to discover, dating from the Roman Empire, and many little towns and villages, each with their own identity and their own traditional celebrations and festivals.
For a secret cultural hint, you may be interested to know that the famous Polish composer Frederic Chopin called Valldemossa “the most beautiful place in the world”. Next to some architectural marvels like the Carthusian Monastery, you’ll find a museum dedicated to Chopin and George Sand.
What is the best beach?
Determining which beach is nicest on Mallorca is an impossible task to achieve as there are so many high-quality beautiful beaches dotting the coastline accessible with during your yacht charter. We have selected S’Amarador as a special recommendation. This is a complex of three beaches, within walking distance from one another, located in the natural park of Mondrago, south-east of the island. These offer the clearest and cleanest turquoise waters of the island.
Arthaud Yachting’s recommendation when chartering a yacht in Mallorca
There may be too many attractions on Mallorca to visit them all in a single cruise. After the cultural visits, the foods and wines tasting, enjoying the beaches and some scenic views, Arthaud Yachting recommends you one last unique experience. To the east of the island, at Cala Falco, you can visit the Pirate’s cave. Not only did it offer refuge to an actual 18th-century pirate, it also displays magnificent karstic formations. This is one of many caves you can discover around Mallorca, thanks to your luxury charter yacht, which enables you to travel quickly and comfortably around the largest Balearic Island.
